The Toronto Sun prints headline 'It's Time for Real Change'. On December 1, 2006 the Toronto Sun editorial was entitled 'It's Time for Real Change'. Sound familiar? This phrase has been my campaign slogan since August. While the Toronto Sun never mentioned my name in their election coverage, it is nice to know that they were listening to my platform.
Innovative Financing The city of Toronto is considering building office and condominium towers on underutilized land around subway stations. Brilliant move! But please include all the components of my plans, including the integration of assisted housing units and home ownership strategies.
Three million dollar severance for leader of Hydro One Tom Parkinson comes over from Australia, makes $1.5 million CDN per year for three years, and gets caught abusing his expenses. So he quits, gets a severance check for $3 million CDN, and disappears. What exactly did this guy do, and how can I apply for the job?
PM denies climate-change shift This is quite the headline from The Toronto Star, though quite misleading. The article was about the Prime Minister's opinion about environmental science, and how he was now accepting some evidence that he had previously questioned. However, most people imprint only the headline. This is another example of neuro-linguistic programming utilized by the media.
Nothing about the Portlands Energy Centre Oh yeah. The board of directors for Hydro One, which approved Tom Parkinson's contract, is different from the board for Ontario Power Generation, which is in process of approving the Portlands Energy Centre. Is Tom Parkinson just a distraction?
Christmas raises for provincial MP's A hefty raise of $22,000, lifting the pay for provincial MP's to $110,000 annually. That will buy a couple of turkeys, and to hell with Tiny Tim.
More American troops for Iraq George Bush announces plans to send another 40,000 troops to Iraq. The occupation of Iraq continues by adding more force. History has shown that an occupying force can never win if the people do not comply. It is time to negotiate peace, and that means bringing the soldiers home and helping our neighbors rebuild. In this war, there can only be two winners.
Canadian Soldiers kill 92-year-old man A peaceful and beloved 92-year-old man was killed in Afghanistan by a Canadian soldier. Though the man on a motorcycle had properly stopped at the first checkpoint, he was driving too fast towards the second checkpoint. A panicking young Canadian fired a warning shot, which ricocheted and hit the man. Whatever happened to Canada as a nation of peacemakers?
Chrisramakah In the spirit of Christmas, Ramadan, Hanukkah, and the Winter Solstice, I wish peace for every soul on this planet. This week we witness the rebirth of a new cycle and a new world. It is possible to build a paradise, but to do so requires us to work together. May your seasonal blessings include harmonious thoughts.
